Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 11 am–2:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (713) 576-6018. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, silkroadhtx.com.

Houston is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Houston peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Went for Houston Restaurant Weeks Lunch menu ($25). It was a good meal, lots of variety in the dumplings. Loved the shrimp and the lava bao. It's not the biggest portions so if you are really hungry maybe not the best choice. Heard the dinner menu is bigger. Staff was super nice, it's inside the Marriott.

Hidden Gem! Did not disappoint. We loved the soup dumplings, fried tarro, lychee lemonade, beef noodles. The food was incredible, as was our server. Grateful they had kid plates. Very nice touch. Seriously incredible food!!

Food was the absolute best I’ve ever had!!! We ordered so much, I’m gonna go down the list on everything we got!! Har gow: very good!!!! Wrapping was soft and the shrimp was fresh, very tasty Crispy shrimp rice noodle: one of the best items!!! Crispy on the inside, and the sauce was nice and sweet! Highly recommend Xiao long bao: my personal favorite! Perfect soup along with soft wrapping and delicious meat!!! Chive dumplings: meh…… it was my least favorite, mainly due to it just having shrimp and chives. Not bad, just everything else is better Mango dessert: didn’t personally have it (I don’t really eat dessert), but others in my party liked it Spicy beef dumplings: considering I hate spicy, I loved it! Only had one, but the sauce wasn’t too spicy and the dumpling was good Spicy noodle dish: I forgot the name of the first noodle, it’s filled with ground beef and carrots with flat rice noodles, but it was pretty good, but I preferred the other one Steamed buns: wow!!!! Nice sweet pork with the perfect wrapping, honestly the perfect bun! Stir fried beef noodles: Awesome!!!!!!!!!!! The noodles were soooo soft and delicious with the flavorful beef and delicious sauce!!!! So g

Elevated dim sum restaurant inside a Marriott. We ordered the spring basket dim sum, jenga turnip cake, crispy shrimp cheung fun, cordycep dumpling, char siu fried rice and hk kale stir fry. All very tasty and refreshing. I’m particularly fond of the cordycep dumpling and the veggie stir fry. They must have blanched then stir fry to get that texture. The food was so good I forgot to take photos.

I had been itching to try this new restaurant since it opened in the Courtyard Marriott. The location of the dim sum restaurant is a little bizarre but it was popping off on Saturday night and the location kind of added to its appeal. We were seating immediately upon arrival and our server was prompt with our drink orders and walking us through the menu since it was our first time. We ordered a buuuunch of stuff to share. Our favorite dishes were the Cheung Fun (crispy shrimp and the vegetable), Chasiu Bao, Xiao Long Bao, but we really enjoyed everything we ordered. For dessert we tried both the lava and custard bao. They were both tasty but the lava bao was so unique. Not savory but not super sweet either. This was our first time having dim sum and we really loved it. The friends we went with have tried dim sum all over Houston and said this was the best they had ever had in the city. Looking forward to our next visit.
